Chapters read like short stories, following the singer’s journey from North Dakota to Alaska, Hollywood, Boston, Buenos Aires, Ethiopia and beyond. Karen writes about “All That Jazz” in amusing and sometimes bizarre stories generating from her experiences with other jazz musicians, recording studios, musical tours and jazz clubs. The second half of the book, “Jazz Prayer,” takes its audience in and out of faith, hope and miracles. All of the stories are true.
One might imagine jazz and prayer as an odd couple, but the book makes a valid case for the synergy between the two. It’s a refreshingly honest look at the music business by a talent who came from “Out Of Nowhere,” one of the forty song-titled chapters. The book is entertaining reading with a positive message for all!
